Video: Go video reaches new heights at Tate Farms
by
Chris Welch
Wednesday October 08, 2008, 10:48 AM
Most folks thought we couldn't reach any new heights with the Go video.
Well, they were wrong.
This week, the Go team headed out to Tate Farms Pumpkin Patch in Meridianville to check out all the pumpkins and fun things for kids to do during fall break and the weeks leading up to Halloween. We also went up the mountain to Burritt on the Mountain museum to see what's new there.
When farm owner Steve Tate, a good ol' cowboy, suggested we head up to the top of the grain elevator to check out the place and find the Great Pumpkin, we jumped at it. Well, Go writer Chris Welch did. He headed up the grain elevator while Go girls Lacy Pruitt and Christie Vail decided to stay below and look for the Great Pumpkin.
Check out the video and see if they found it. Also, check out the video for this week's secret word that will help you win a $50 gift certificate to either Dolce's or Ketchup in the Bridge Street Town Center.

Dulcimer musician styles vary
by Gregg L. Parker
Wednesday October 08, 2008, 9:32 AM
Jon W. Harris, of Madison, plays a dulcimer in his home shop.Musicians at the Double Dulcimer Festival were playing two different versions of the folk instrument: the hammer type and the mountain version.
What's the difference between the two? Jon W. Harris, who owns Sweet Strings Dulcimers, said the hammer dulcimer is a very old instrument, usually trapezoidal or four-sided in shape. Each string supplies one or two notes.
"It can be either chromatic or diatonic and is played with a lightweight hammer in each hand," making it a percussion instrument similar in tone to the piano, Harris said.

by c.a. Marks
Wednesday October 08, 2008, 8:55 AM
October's Cork & Canvas will be held at the Monaco Pictures at Bridgestreet. My good friend, and matron of honor in my upcoming wedding, Michele Lee will be the host and instructor for the evening. You bet I will be in attendance.
From Michele Lee's website -
This month's subject: "Reflections of Me" An interprative painting of you!Monaco Pictures, in a partnership with Average To Art and Michele Lee, would like you to come and relax on the patio, sip a glass of wine or two and learn how to paint your very own masterpiece.
Cost is $40++ prior to the event and $50++ the day of--includes two glasses of wine and all materials. *For this event, you will need to bring 3 things that represent who you are. This will create your still life.
Space is limited so email Madeline Sandlin, Special Events Coordinator or call 256.327.8342 to reserve your spot at this unique and fun event!
*If it rains, we will move the event indoors to our beautiful Scene Lounge.
This is going to be a lot of fun. I am not a painter (or visual artist) by any means but this event is a creative endeavor and I'm all about the creativity part. I already know what my three things I will bring with me that represent me. I'm really excited about this one and I hope to see a lot of people there.
