  • Scotty Nguyen?

    by Brian Heptinstall

The blogs all over the country are heated today over the taping of the $50k H.O.R.S.E event. Scotty Nguyen was an absolute joke at the final table taping. I knwo that most people see Scotty as an ambassador for the game, but not this kind of ambassador.

    More Trouble for the WPT?

    by Brian Heptinstall
    Tuesday August 19, 2008, 12:33 PM

I guess it has come down to the loss of the first quarter of this year. WPTE Inc. has been given an ultimatum of sorts by Nasdaq to get their shares up or be banished from the companies list.

Hanging out with Buzz & Woody at the All Star Movies Resort

    by Amber Solan
    Tuesday August 19, 2008, 10:44 AM

I love how, when you go to Disney World, you don't have to wait to get into the theme parks for the "Magic" to happen. You can start by making sure that your family is staying in the right place. There are a lot of hotels on Disney property, so you can find almost any kind of hotel you are looking for. Of course, the main point of your trip is likely to spend time in the parks, but it sure is nice to be able to enjoy coming back to your room.

When we planned one of our trips to Disney World, I knew that my four year old son would get the biggest kick out of staying at the All Star Movies Resort just because they have a Toy Story section. The bonus for us was that it is a Value Resort so it's actually affordable. When I booked our trip, I specifically requested that we stay on the Toy Story side, with Woody and Buzz! Depending on demand, they may not always be able to accommodate a request like that, but we lucked out. Now, I only saw the pictures on the internet before we went, so when we got there and we were surrounded by it, it really came to life.

Seeing Stars and Storming Barns at Mickey's Toon Town Fair

    by Josh Olive
    Monday August 18, 2008, 9:49 AM

Heading out of Fantasyland, we hook a left past Pooh's Playful Spot and head for Mickey's Toon Town Fair, where Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, Goofy, and even old Pegleg Pete live.

This land first opened as Mickey's Birthday Land to celebrate Mickey's 60th birthday, then morphed into Mickey's Star Land when they decided to keep the land open permanently. A few years after that, the name changed yet again, becoming Mickey's Toon Town Fair. Mickey's Toon Town Fair is aimed pretty squarely at children, for the most part, so if you've got young ones, you'll likely spend more time here than if you don't.

    The bad side of poker

    by Brian Heptinstall
    Sunday August 17, 2008, 8:35 PM

It's been quite boring in the poker world as of late. After the November 9 were formed and the party which is the WSOP was over, there's not much to talk about. So, it's been the usual of playing around town and taking the random trips to the neighborhood casinos (by neighborhood, I mean Tunica and Biloxi). I love to play when I get the chance to, but in the last few weeks it's been a big turn off to play at some of my favorite spots!

    Walt Disney World's Fantasyland

    by Josh Olive
    Monday August 11, 2008, 3:27 PM

It's been a few weeks since we visited Liberty Square - sorry about the delay, folks; keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle, as it may start up again at any time - but I'm back in the saddle and raring to go.

When last we were in the Magic Kingdom, we were heading for Fantasyland, coming from Liberty Square, so we'll maintain that heading now. Of course, you can get to Fantasyland any number of ways - through the castle, around the castle, or from Tomorrowland - but regardless of how you get there, the same wonderful place is waiting for you just behind the castle.

From Liberty Square, you pass under one of the unique dining rooms of the Columbia Harbour House restaurant, leaving the land of early colonial America and entering a land of make-believe, dreams, and, well, fantasy.

    A Really Big Splash

by Anna Mazurek / The Birmingham News
    Sunday August 10, 2008, 11:12 AM

The Maid of the Mist travels past the base of the American Falls.
Niagara Falls is famous among honeymooners and daredevils, but the natural wonder has plenty of excitement for everyone.

The Falls were formed 12,000 years ago and consist of three waterfalls: the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and smaller Bridal Vail Falls both on the U.S. side. The falls are the largest producer of electric power in the world. The Canadian Horseshoe Falls rises 170 feet with a span of 2,200 feet, and the American Falls stands taller at 180 feet but with a span of only 1,060 feet.

The best view is from the Canadian side. Railed walkways lined with tulips parallel a good portion of the river and offer free overall views of the falls. The walkways also provide several photographic opportunities. The Table Rock lookout allows you to stand feet from where Horseshoe Falls plunges 20 stories below and mist hovers high in the air overhead.
