Auburn's Iron Bowl Report Card Results

Tuberville's job is in limbo after a 36-0 loss to arch-rival Alabama.
Auburn was looking for their 7th straight win over Alabama last Saturday and came away with their 7th loss of the season. The mood was optimistic leading up to the Iron Bowl with Kodi Burns seemingly progressing and key defensive players becoming healthy, but there was little optimism following a 36-0 shutout in Tuscaloosa. Tuberville and his Tigers finished their dismal season two games under .500 (5-7) and wrapped up their final report card with "F's" across the board. As of right now, there are "talks" in progress on the future of the tenured Tommy Tuberville and his staff with conflicting reports of a possible outcome. Tuberville's job seems to be hanging by a thread i.e., a monstrous six million dollar buyout that is to be paid in full within one year. Be sure to check back with al.com for updates concerning Tommy's future. Continue reading this entry for a quick season review, Iron Bowl photo gallery, Iron Bowl highlight video and the complete report card results.

Auburn vs Georgia Report Card Results

Special teams were hard to watch in Auburn's loss to Georgia.
Special teams weren't so special in Auburn's 17-13 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs. A missed extra point in the first quarter came back to haunt Tommy Tuberville and his Tigers. Trailing by 4 in the final drive, Auburn was forced to try for a touchdown, instead of attempting a field goal to force overtime, and the outcome was a 3rd straight loss to the Bulldogs. There were some promising moments in the "Oldest Rivalry in the South"- i.e., Mario Fannin. Fannin scored on a 52 yard pass from Burns and ran for a 35 yard score in the second half. Fans were confused about the decision to keep Fannin out on the final drive and gave the coaches the worst grade on the team. Even after the tough loss, Tuberville and his team contend they will have no problem focusing on #1 Alabama Crimson Tide and the Iron Bowl. They will need to pull off the upset to become bowl-eligible. Continue reading this entry for the complete results and check out the additional user comments at the end.

Auburn running back Mario Fannin (27) is gang tackled by the Georgia defense and Georgia defensive end Jeremy Lomax (55) is called for a face mask penalty in the third quarter Saturday November 15, 2008 at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala.
It was just another close, tough loss for an Auburn team that had already experienced more than its fair share of close, tough losses. When Kodi Burns' pass on fourth down fell incomplete in the back corner of the end zone, Auburn's chance to become bowl-eligible this year was literally an inch or two away, but the Tigers couldn't grab it.

If you want to know what a certain coach or player thought about the game, there's a good chance I talked to them on camera. Click the names below to watch those interviews:

Burns had a stellar day on the ground rushing for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Tommy Tuberville and his Auburn Tigers ended their 4 game losing streak with a 37-20 victory over Tennessee-Martin. While the team may be happy with the homecoming win, the fans weren't too impressed with the overall performance of the team. Kodi Burns earned the highest grade after rushing for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns. The lowest grade went to the defensive backs after allowing Tennessee-Martin quarterback, Cade Thompson, to throw for 285 yards and 2 scores. With Georgia coming to town next week, the Tigers will need a more complete performance from Burns and a healthy defense to stop the likes of Moreno and company.

Tuberville is in danger of having his first losing season since 1999.
Auburn dropped their 4th straight loss to Houston Nutt's Ole Miss Rebels and the year is spiraling out of control. The same can be said for Auburn's report cards this year. Tommy Tuberville's job security continues to drift to obscurity as the fans failed the Auburn coach on the report card for the 4th week in a row. Kodi Burns showed some flashes of progression throwing for 319 yards but negated that effort with 3 interceptions. The fans took their frustrations out on the offensive line this week, failing them for the first time this season. Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville looks for answers at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday Nov. 1, 2008, in Oxford, Miss.

Auburn entered Saturday's game needing two more wins to make it to a bowl game this year, and after a 17-7 loss to Ole Miss, those chances look even less likely.

A season that started with a lot of promise has gotten so bad that after a four-game losing streak, the biggest questions remaining are whether the Tigers will make it to a bowl game and how long Tommy Tuberville will remain Auburn's head coach.

You can discuss these questions with other Auburn fans in the Tigers forum, look over the box score for a silver lining to Auburn's loss to the Rebels, and check out the photo gallery from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Don't forget to fill out your Auburn report card, but before you do, click below for full coverage from Sunday's editions of The Birmingham News, the Press-Register of Mobile and The Huntsville Times.

It was another tough day for Tommy Tuberville and his Auburn football team. Tuberville could have his first losing season at Auburn since 1999.
Auburn couldn't get out of their own way in Oxford taking on the Rebels. Kodi Burns threw three interceptions in a 17-7 loss to Ole Miss. Auburn's fourth straight defeat takes their record to a dismal 4-5 and puts their bowl aspirations in serious jeopardy. Auburn will have to pull of an upset of #2 Alabama and/or #6 Georgia to extend their season past November. Check out the game photos , analyze the stats , vent your anger with other Auburn fans in the Tiger forum and dish out grades on Auburn's report card.

A dejected Auburn defensive back Walter McFadden (6) can't watch the final seconds of the 34-17 loss to West Virginia. A usually solid defensive unit received an "F" for the first time this season.
Defense has been the strength of the Auburn Tigers all year, until now. The Auburn defense gave up 31 unanswered points in the second half of their 34-17 loss on Thursday night in Morgantown, West Virginia. The Auburn linebackers and secondary struggled to get a hand on the Mountaineer's slippery running back Noel Devine and allowed him to scamper for 207 yards. The Auburn fans were extremely unhappy with the display of poor tackling, busted coverages and incosistent play and dished out "F's" to both of the aforementioned units. It was Auburn's third straight loss and the third straight "F" for a disheveled Auburn coaching staff. As many changes this staff has endured over the years, it seems there could be more to come. I suspect that if Auburn does not have a strong finish to the year (3-1, with win over ALA or UGA), Tommy Tuberville will have to put some friendships aside and make some hard decisions with his tenured staff. Tommy Tuberville is once again feeling the proverbial hotseat after losing to Bobby Petrino's struggling Arkansas squad.
After the firing of offensive coordinator Tony Franklin, the Auburn fans have shifted their criticism to Coach Tommy Tuberville. The mid-week implosion on the plains led to the Saturday debacle inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. Arkansas pulled off the upset over 20th ranked Auburn 25-22 and the report cards indicate exactly who the fans are blaming for the loss. An overwhelming 80 percent of the fans gave Tommy Tuberville and his staff an "F" for their unexpected failure against the Hogs. If Tuberville and his staff continue to receive failing grades, they could be staring down the barrel of expulsion from Auburn University.
